Called to the Lanes Part 1

Called to the Staging Lanes part 1

Acts 8:36-37 -  See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?   And Philip  said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.

“No Box to 5 and 6”.  “Blue run stickers to 3 and 4”. Miss this call and your race never gets started.  In the race we call the Christian life, there is a call to the lanes, a staging area, a place to start.  It’s called baptism.

You have put your faith in Jesus, accepted Him as Lord of your life.  What is the first thing He wants you to do? Get to the lanes for your race! “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). We will discuss the meaning of baptism in the next couple of devotionals. For now, consider this important step.  How does it work?

Speak to a trusted Christian friend for recommendations for a good church.  Speak to the pastor about the church’s procedure for baptism.  He will ask you about your faith in Jesus and discuss a date (some have classes for more in depth information).

Some churches have a baptistry (small pool, large tub) in which to be baptized.  Others baptize in an outside body of water (swimming pool, lake, large creek). When you enter the water, the pastor will say something to the effect “I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”.  He will guide you under the water (fraction of a second only) and guide you up.  Nothing to it.

Click below to view examples of baptisms. These are not from Fast and Faith or from our church, but will give you an idea of what baptism looks like.
